Article 36 of Chapter C authorizes a county board of commissioners to hold a referendum on the authorization of a voted supplemental tax to support its local school administrative unit. The voters approve a maximum tax rate and the purposes for which the revenue may be used , subject to the statutory cap set in G.
The local board of education proposes a supplemental property tax rate at some rate below the statutory maximum to the county commissioners each year and the county commissioners may levy the supplemental tax at a rate of up to the amount proposed by the local board of education.
